CORS Establishment, Adjustment & Maintenance

CORS Establishment

As part of some specific projects, there may be a need to reinforce the existing ground control network in the project area for aerial mapping and terrestrial surveys. Tasks may include;

          - Establishment of GNSS base stations with RTK capability 

          - Establishment of ground control points

          - Establishment of leveling reference points

Firstly, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the existing National Geodetic Reference Points and Benchmarks (BMs), the condition of the existing Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and the suitable locations for the new GCPs to be established in the project area.

 

These GCPs will be used for all-terrain control, aerial survey work and for the establishment of control/base stations.

The establishment of the base station will be done according to the NOAA Guidelines for new and existing CORS. The implementation of these guidelines aims to minimize GNSS signal distortion and maximize the quality of calculated positions to achieve centimeter accuracy.

Terrestrial Techniques

Terrestrial laser scanning is a complementary technology to conventional surveying. The sensor continuously emits and receives a laser beam and calculates the distance of the object. The beam is directed by rotating or oscillating mirrors.

The main difference is that the sensor does not move, but is mounted on a tripod or other structure. Therefore, no positioning solution is required, although newer scanners can be connected directly to GNSS receivers to obtain the position of the scanner station.
